Core Technology and Production Process
Tyra Technology is the next evolution in Dimension-Polyant's advanced fiber
reinforcement capabilities. At the heart of Tyra Technology are two highly automated, specialized machines that were designed for and by the experts at Dimension-Polyant. Every good product must start with good inputs. In the Tyra process, the first step is creating high quality spread filament tapes at exceptionally light weight. This first process spreads filament yarns apart so that each individual filament is aligned into a thin spread single filament ply. This single ply, or tape, known as Tyra UD®, is the fundamental building block of the technology.
A second process lays the UD taped in specific orientations to create a flexible composite that can be tailored for nearly any application. A simple 0-90° can be useful for ultra-light alpine climbing fabrics whereas an eight or ten layer laminate may be used in dynamic, high-load applications.
Technical Highlights and Benefits
The technical advantages of Tyra Technology are numerous and significant. The spread filament-based approach ensures an exceptional strength-to weight ratio, making the fabrics both ultra-thin and incredibly strong. Tyra Technology can also provide exacting off-angle reinforcement.
One of the standout characteristics of Tyra Technology is its ability to eliminate excess weight and bulk while enhancing performance. The precise alignment and orientation of each filament maximize their contribution to load carrying, tear resistance, and puncture toughness.
Applications
In the realm of tactical gear, and the X-Pac® Tactical product line, Tyra Technology is used in highly specialized products. These fabrics are designed to meet the rigorous demands of tactical operators, first responders, and shooting sports enthusiasts with applications in plate carriers, structural pouches, frame packs, etc. Tyra Technology to create laminates that result in gear that is lightweight, ridiculously strong, durable, and waterproof.
XPT Manta fabric, another product in this line, integrates a 500d CORDURA® face fabric with a Tyra Technology core and a 200d backer, providing exceptional strength and stability in a compact, thin laminate.
